Looking Back To Half Term Last Year

Thursday 12 February 2015

This time last year we headed off to Cornwall to stay in a remote wooden cabin, overlooking the Heleford Passage.

It would be our first holiday as a family of three. What better way to do it than locked up in a shack in the depths of winter, risking getting shut off from civilisation in the blizzards that were forecast. And we were shut off, but not for as long as I had hoped!
After over five miles of country roads that were big enough only for one car, we made the descent down the last dirt track to our private beach and cabin.
To gain access to the cabin we clambered up thirty steep, rickety steps. Baby in one arm, clinging tightly to the rail with the other, Evan and me stayed put while The Janitor collected the remaining luggage. There was a lot.
The cabin was everything I had dreamed of. The views, as you can see, were picturesque, it was the most peaceful place to bring our four month old.
A village pub across the beach, only a short walk away, was fun to explore on our first afternoon.
We spent the rest of the week eating, sleeping, exploring, walking and relaxing. Evan spent the week in the sling, cuddled close to his papa.
From the age of nine - sixteen, I lived in Cornwall and hadn't returned for a number of years and since this break, hadn't returned for a number of years. It was special to be able to show my family where I spent a good chunk of my childhood and where I went to school. It sure did evoke a few emotions.
How fast a year goes by. How fast our boy has grown. How much he has changed. How special to look back and remember this time.
